"body": "
Oct. 20, 2026 - Multiple playoff races are coming into focus as the fall season rolls on, with just two weeks of regular season football remaining, one week of soccer and field hockey, and the Rugby 15s championships set to begin this Thursday.

On the gridiron, the Huskies, Rams and Thunderbirds picked up big wins coming out of the Thanksgiving bye week. The Huskies (5-1) clinched a playoff spot with their fifth straight win, while the Rams (3-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 43-17 drubbing of Alberta. UBC (4-2) took sole possession of second place with a 34-18 win over Calgary.

It was a milestone weekend for UBC women's soccer star Maddy Norman, whose four-point performance against UNBC on Sunday helped her tie the Canada West single-season points record with 22. The Thunderbirds finished the regular season at 13-0-1 and clinched the top seed in the Pacific Division.

UBCO men's soccer goalkeeper Ronan Woodroffe also etched his name into the Canada West record books on Saturday, making 10 saves against Victoria to become the conference's all-time leader in career saves with 357.

The Canada West Rugby 15s playoff matchups are set after Lethbridge and Victoria closed out the regular season with big wins last weekend. Host Victoria will face Alberta in one semifinal this Thursday, while Lethbridge and UBC will meet in the other. The medal games will then go on Sunday.

In field hockey, UBC swept Calgary to improve to 5-0-1, setting up a banner race that will go down to the final weekend. The Thunderbirds will host the Vikes in a pivotal two-game series to close out the regular season, with UBC looking to end Victoria's seven-year reign atop the conference.

Canada West hockey action also continued into its second week, while the volleyball and basketball seasons are set to begin this Friday.

Let's get to our BioSteel Players of the Week.

Football Offensive Player of the Week - Anton Amundrud (Saskatchewan Huskies)

Week 7 vs MAN: 37-for-45, 491 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT in 39-20 win

Anton Amundrud put together another exceptional performance Friday night, leading the Huskies to a 39-20 win over Manitoba for their fifth straight victory of the season.

The fifth-year pivot completed 82% of passes for a season-high 491 yards and connected with receivers for a trio of majors. Amundrud continues to be the conference’s most productive quarterback and with another impressive outing, moved to within striking distance of the Huskie career passing yards and touchdowns program records. He is currently leading CW in yards per game with 341, and in touchdowns with 15.
\n <figure\n class=\"release-content-image release-content-image--contained release-content-image--align-center\"\n data-component=\"image-zoom-popup\"\n data-image-zoom-popup-selector=\".release-content-image__image\"\n data-image-zoom-popup-i18n=\"data:application/json;base64,eyJEb3dubG9hZCI6IkRvd25sb2FkIn0=\"\n data-image-zoom-popup-tracking-views-event=\"Story Image View\"\n data-image-zoom-popup-tracking-download-event=\"Story Image Download\"\n data-image-zoom-popup-placement=\"content\"\n >\n
\n <img\n src=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/bb7bfb5b-1825-40f1-97e4-ab748f84a1e6/-/format/auto/\"\n class=\"release-content-image__image image-thumbnail-rollover__image\"\n data-description=\"\"\n id=\"image-bb7bfb5b-1825-40f1-97e4-ab748f84a1e6\"\n data-id=\"bb7bfb5b-1825-40f1-97e4-ab748f84a1e6\"\n data-original=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/bb7bfb5b-1825-40f1-97e4-ab748f84a1e6/-/inline/no/WK7+FB+O+SSK+Amundrud.png\"\n data-mfp-src=\"https://cdn.uc.assets.prezly.com/bb7bfb5b-1825-40f1-97e4-ab748f84a1e6/-/format/auto/\"\n alt=\"Story image\"\n />\n
\n \n <use xlink:href=\"#icon-expand\"></use>\n
\n
\n\n

\n
\n
View CW Football News, Stats and More

Football Defensive Player of the Week - Jacob Tkachuk (Regina Rams)

Week 7 vs ALB: 5.5 tackles, 1 INT, 1 PBU, 1 fumble recovery in 43-17 win

Jacob Tkachuk helped lead a dominant defensive effort by the Regina Rams in Thursday's 43-17 victory over Alberta, finishing with a team-high 5.5 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.
